We Would Die

Between childhood lessons, eclipsing moons,
The earliest dream that I recall
Was ashes falling from the sky,
And if they touched us, we would die.
If one touched us, we would die.

In the innocence of the childs' minds' eyes
Invisible mysteries from the sky
We would die, we would die.

In the sunshine of our playground tunes,
The earliest game without a ball
Was every boy lined up to fight
We'd know who could whip who on sight.
We knew who could take you on sight.

The innocence of a child's mind's eye
When it came our turn to cry
We would die, we would die.

Line us up behind our desks
Attendance, lunchtime, Jack or Jill
Kneeling down behind our desks
We know it's not a fire drill.
We know it's not a recess break,
We know it's not to take our pills.

Ooh, ooh, die; ooh, ooh, die.

The innocence of the childs' minds' eyes
When every day we wake to rise
We would die, we would die.

With angry voices of hate and greed
Poisoning the things we need.
We would die, we would die.

The innocence of a child's mind's eye
Invisible mysteries from the sky
We would die, we would die.

With childhood lessons of man-made suns,
The earliest dream that I recall
Was ashes falling from the sky,
And if they touched us, we would die.
We would die, we would die.
