Those who would rule us
Depend on those who want rulers
The rest of us stare in disbelief
Don't let this dishonesty fool us
Those who seek to rule
need those who would be ruled Some of us feel like the lines on the paper
Some of us crawl out of school
And you people out there are'all knuckled down
Want the rest of us to buckle down too
You memorize those answers you found
As if you have thought these things through
And I think you will find -
I really think you will find
Conformity comforts the weakened of mind
Comfort confronts the reformed of mind
The edges only serve to define
How to walk a narrow straight line
Those who seek to rule
need those who would be ruled Some of us feel like the lines on the paper
When we try to understand you
You might like to be told what to do
Or at least follow somebody's rules
Most of us prefer to think for ourselves
Than to follow what pacifies you
College-ruled and three-hole punched
Ready for your dossier to file
I didn't need to go to school
To tell me who steps out of line
And it's easier to expect control
Than to examine your black and white goals
It's easier to demand these rules
Than to freely pursue your life soul
Those who would rule us
Depend on those who want rulers Leaving the rest of us to stare -
Don't let this absurdity fool us
Some of us just like the lines on the paper
To show where our fingers can go
