The only thing missing from the Ace of Three Bones
Is a clock wound up to thirteen
Hey mister, how you gonna write a country song like that?
Well, first ya gotta put mister Williams all over it
by robbing him like Jesse James did banks
And then you need pedal steel guitar
And a little bit of piano playin'
The simplest of drums and a bassist who can play
You gotta get all the women dancin'
But then you gotta take out all the good parts
'cause you done stole them from Hank.
So I call up my old friend Lou Reed
right there on his telephone
and I say "Mr. Reed - my friend
How can I best fix this song?"
and my friend Lou says,
"I don't know a fucking thing -
you gotta do what you gotta do
How else are you gonna sing?"
And that was when I remembered
that Hank made more than Country
and this little bit of backwoods nonsense
owed more to Mr. Berry
So with a little Western swing
and some hill and billy stroll
we put it all together
and invented rock and roll
("Stop trying to copy me" - Leonard Cohen, R.I.P.
It's only an accident, it's you that sounds like me!)
I think we should chuck this indoor life
and head out on the road
But the way things go, these rock and roll nights
we'd both end up in the cold
