Two pirate ships met one fine day
Not for a picnic and not to play
A pirate ship across the bay
With hoisted flag and unfurled sails
Who knows where and who knows why
When there's plunder on the main they spy
With cannon and swords, all the armaments
If they board your ship you'd better give up
All your silks and trinkets
Two pirate ships met one fine day
Not for a picnic and not to play
For one to go one had to stay
And this is how that battle paid
Oh, a pirate ship on the horizon clear
Her masts grow taller as she grows near
We all ask, "Can we defend?
Do we have the powder and the balls
To put this pirate to an end?"
They opened fire as we drew broadside
Spreading smoke across the sky
(Hazy smoke a watered eye)
Two pirate ships met one fine day
Not for a picnic and not to play
For one to go one had to stay
And this is how that battle paid
Warning bells ring our oceans
Crusted rocks demand devotion
Some of us went down with the opening volley
We tend to the injured safe below decks
And who will benefit from this folly?
Shots ring out and planks are thrown
Ropes tied across our beams
Who is fighting whom?
It seems more of us are over there
Than there are of them on our decks
Fighting to take our share
Two pirate ships met one fine day
Not for a picnic and not to play
For one to go one had to stay
And this is how that battle paid
Barnacle bells she's our old ship
Crusted rocks took her hull and ribs
So let's take that flag down from their mast
Tie it to ours and fly it fast!
Whoever won nobody's sure
Life's jumble sale of allegiances
We're all brothers or more
A pirate ship and we are bold
We've gilded well our empty hold
Two pirate ships met one fine day
Not for a picnic and not to play
For one to go one had to stay
And this is how that battle paid
Hollowed and shelled, she's our old ship
I trust these docks will make her fit
Ring these bells, she's our old ship
Sing this well for she's not done yet
The ocean swells and this whole world
Has become our pirate ship
