Sometimes they seem a bit lost

With eyes on the silver plate
And sometimes their elders and betters
Have dreams of hoodwinking fate

Sometimes it's done with a poison
So subtle it should be discreet
Sometimes a bullet and gunshot
Directly across the street

There's always some downstair servant
Some innocent delivery clerk
To find or buy, build an alibi
From all the pieces that work

Some of them are jilted husbands
Sometimes their angry wives
But they won't have to split the estate
With only one of them left alive
